Current and Past Solutions Paper

There are three current solutions that solve the problem of writing or jotting down small notes on a completely random basis. There are five solutions that solve the problem but they are not as efficient as my solution. The first and most obvious solution would be using a simple writing utensil such as a pen or a pencil with paper. The second solution is the post it note (a small piece of paper with a sticky edge to take notes on) . The Third solution would be a PDA (handheld computer), the fourth being a voice recorder. And the fifth problem solver would be a cell phone that can take down short notes and phone numbers.

The first solution is the simple writing utensil used with paper. This is the basic make up of my invention, it solves the problem, but not as efficiently as my invention. The problem with this is that the two things are too inconvenient to carry around when a quick note is written down. The notebook of paper is also bulky and hard to carry around.

The second solution is the Post-it note, which is also part of my invention. This is a small note sized piece of paper that has a sticky edge so that you can affix it to something and be able to take it off without leaving a mark. This invention solves the problem of not having anything to write on but it still doesnt solve the other problem of not having a writing utensil. When combined with a writing utensil this would solve the entire problem. This is more efficient compared to the large notebook because it is small and easy to carry, the problem with post-it notes is that they can be easily torn up and destroyed in a pocket.

The third solution of small random note taking is the PDA or handheld computer. The PDA is a small palm sized computer that allows you to take notes right on the screen using a plastic tipped pen. This invention although good for the classroom or the office it is not suitable to solve this problem for the following reasons. The PDA is too expensive and too easily damaged. The PDA is too fragile and is more weight compared to a pencil and paper. It serves a purpose for a rich man, but not the poor students in EDD.

The fourth solution is a voice recorder, this invention also solves the problem but in a different way. The voice recorder can record thoughts or notes on a tape or digitally. Although this invention is small and time efficient, it is expensive to buy and maintain and more can go wrong with it and you must translate the tapes to paper.

The fifth solution is a cell phone, this solves the problem only because certain cell phones have the ability for note taking and a phone number directory. These are also cost effective and not as convenient to use. When taking a note on the phone it can be slow because each letter is typed one by one.

My invention of the pen with a dispensable paper roll would solve the problem of small random note taking. It would be lightweight and have all of the necessary components to solve this problem. There would no longer be a need to carry around a pen with a separate bulky notebook. This invention would be good for anyone and it would not be costly to the consumer. The two in one design new functionality and adds strength to the pen along with ease of use.
